Position Summary:

Delegating Registered Nurse (RN) for the developmentally disabled provides medical oversight and health-related case management for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities (I/DD). Their primary responsibility is to legally train, assess, and delegate routine health tasks—like medication administration—to unlicensed direct support professionals (DSPs) or certified medication technicians (CMTs)

Duties and Responsibilities:

Task Delegation: Evaluate whether specific health tasks can be safely performed by unlicensed staff.

Staff Training: Instruct DSPs on medication administration, specialized treatments, and emergency protocols.

Competency Assessment: Verify that caregivers can safely perform delegated duties through regular check-ins and observations.

Care Planning: Develop and update individualized nursing care plans (NCPs) for each client.

Routine Assessments: Conduct mandatory initial, monthly, 45-day, and annual health reviews required by state regulations.

Medical Triage: Provide on-call phone triage or hands-on support during medical crises or changes in health status.

Team Collaboration: Attend person-centered planning meetings and act as a liaison between families, doctors, and care staff.

Required Qualifications:

Active License: Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of practice.

Experience: Previous clinical experience in geriatrics, home health, or intellectual and developmental disabilities (I/DD).Regulatory

Extensive understanding of state-specific Nurse Practice Acts and developmental disability agency guidelines.

Strong interpersonal skills to effectively train non-medical staff and advocate for patients.
